AWE Sacred Arts Ministry Network

you were created to create!

The Anglican tradition, with its rich history of cherishing sacred art, has always lifted hearts to God, taught the Faith, and expressed the beauty of holiness. Rooted in Scripture, shaped by the early Church, and enriched by centuries of Christian creativity, Anglicans have celebrated sacred art through architecture, music, liturgy, and the written word. From medieval cathedrals adorned with stained glass and stone carvings to the soaring hymns and choral anthems that continue to mark Anglican worship, beauty has always stood at the center. Vestments, altar hangings, sacred vessels, and banners remind the faithful of Christ’s majesty and the holiness of the Eucharist. At the same time, stained glass windows, paintings, and icons serve as windows into the divine.

The apostle Paul captures this truth in Ephesians 2:10: “For we are His workmanship—His poiēma—created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” The word “poiēma,” from which we derive our English word “poem,” comes from the Greek verb “poieō”—“to make, to do, to create.” It describes believers as God’s masterpiece, handiwork, or work of art—intentionally designed and skillfully crafted by the Creator for a purpose. To call us God’s poiēma is to declare that we are His living artwork, uniquely fashioned to reflect His glory and to walk in the good works He has prepared for us.

This vision lies at the heart of cultural apologetics: making the Christian Faith not only reasonable but also beautiful through the lived witness of creativity. Sacred art—whether in icons, frescoes, stained glass, music, theater, or liturgical dance—has always been a powerful expression of this vision. It awakens awe, reshapes imagination, and testifies that the gospel is not only authentic but also life-giving and beautiful.

Imagine your painting adorning the walls of a church, your music filling the nave, your dance bringing a Psalm to life, or your craftsmanship enriching a sacred space. Every brushstroke, note, and movement can become a window into the glory of the One who created you to create!

Now more than ever, the Church longs for beauty that awakens the heart and magnifies the Lord. That is why we invite you to learn more about the AWE Sacred Arts Ministry Network—a growing community of artists, musicians, dancers, teachers, and creatives who believe that sacred art is a language of the Kingdom that must be restored.

Together we seek to make God’s Kingdom audible and visible for this generation through countless expressions of beauty. You are God’s poiēma. Let His glory shine through you!
